Classify Your Own AI System
This assignment builds your first EU AI Act classification record. Pick one AI system your organisation currently uses or is considering — ideally one you're uncertain about — and work through the classification framework.
The Classification Worksheet
If a system could plausibly fall into a higher-risk category, classify it there. Regulators apply a substance-over-form test — how a system is actually used matters more than how it's marketed. An HR analytics tool that "provides insights" but consistently influences hiring decisions will be treated as high-risk.
One completed classification record. If you do this for every AI system in your organisation, you'll have the foundation of your EU AI Act compliance programme. That's the AI Register — which we build in full in Section 2.3.
